Il Giorno del ringraziamento

Buon giorno del ringraziamento!

When you have completed your poem (slide by slide and one pager), your voiceover, your invitation to poetry reading and emailed it all to me, you may do the worksheet on thanksgiving. Use google translate to find the thanksgiving words. Then, on the tacchino on the back, write "sono grato per..." Then on each feather write (in Italian) something you are grateful for.

Poemi: Chi sono io?

Friday- final day in computer lab to complete your poem-

1)complete PowerPoint with images.

2) record narration of yourself reading poem

3) email poem to me: gorham1314@gmail.com

4) create an invite to the poetry reading and email it to a family member or teacher

Instructions from yesterday are below .......

Today we are going to be putting our "io sono" poems into powerpoint.  I made a sample below, but yours will have a voice over!

https://docs.google.com/a/bostonpublicschools.org/presentation/d/1Sid3tZMIZTx1L-28nmKhd0641c_yv7z-ENl1oppqzZ8/edit#slide=id.p

Your powerpoint should include your poem, one line at a time, with an image and your voice reading the text in Italian.  The final slide of your poem should be the entire poem written out with all of the images together.  This slide I will print to hang in the classroom. You do not need to record yourself reading the final slide.

See the video below for help with powerpoint basics.
powerpoint tutorial 2013 basics

To add a voice over, go to "Insert" and "record narration".  Be sure to check "link narrations" box. It will be embedded in your powerpoint.

Now set timings so that the powerpoint will run automatically.   Go to "slideshow" on the top bar, then to "record slideshow".

Good luck! And if you have any issues, many of your fellow students are experts and can help, or you can call me over!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

When you are finished, use power point to create an email invitation in Italian and English - send it to a family member or teacher who might want to attend our Poetry Reading!  CC: me on your invite so I can give you credit for sending it out.   Include this important information:

Che (What):  Un Giorno di Poesie Italiane!

Quando( When) e dove: martedi' 25 novembre
periodo 2: 8:40 -9:20 (303)
periodo 3: 9:40-10:20 (155)
periodo 6: 1:05 - 1:45 (303)

Chi: La famiglia e i professori!

------------------------------------------------

If you have good technology at home, try to see if you can do a Prezi there - otherwise I'm hopint to teach you with some more updated school technology in December or January.

I made one last night - it took me a few minutes to get used to it, but it was pretty quick and easy once I got the hang of it!  Here's my sample...

http://prezi.com/44ohtocnbgik/edit/#9_86744192

Now it's your turn!  Follow the steps below if your'e a first-timer.  If you know how to use Prezi already, go ahead and get started on your home - and please help out classmates near you who are having trouble!

Go to: https://prezi.com/

Click on "Get Started"

Then click "Use Prezi for Free" option.

Create a "free public account" by typing in your name, email and password.

Once you are in, create a new Prezi.  You may choose a template, or create a blank Prezi - the format is circles.

Add your poem by typing one line into each circle.  Go to "insert" to add pictures or video."

Adding your voice over is a little more complicated - you will need to open a new application on this computer, such as Quick Time or Audacity.  Create a new "audio track" - one track for each line of the poem.  After your track is created, go to "insert"

Here's an online tutorial if you're having trouble getting started!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ccaI7J8ohr8

Or if you need help with the voiceovers.

Call me over, or one of your expert classmates for help!

Good luck!  In bocca al lupo!

Che ora e'?

Oggi abbiamo imparato a dire l'ora in italiano (Today we learned how to tell time in Italian).

We took notes, practiced, then had a lively competition!

Here are some additional notes, if what I gave you today wasn't helpful, or you didn't get it all down:

You've got to know the time if you want to see those Botticelli paintings at the Uffizi in Florence. Luckily, there are two ways to ask "What time is it?" in Italian: Che ora è? and Che ore sono? If the time is one o'clock, noon, or midnight, the answer is in the singular; for all other hours, it is plural. Note that the phrase "o'clock" has no direct equivalent in Italian.
Che ora è? (What time is it?)
Che ore sono? (What time is it?)
È l'una. (It's one o'clock.)
È mezzogiorno. (It's noon.)
È mezzanotte. (It's midnight.)
Sono le tre e quindici. (It's 3:15.)
È mezzo giorno e dieci. (It's 12:10.)

COMMON TERMS RELATED TO TELLING TIME
morningdi mattino
noonmezzogiorno
afternoondel pomeriggio
eveningdi sera
midnightmezzanotte
a quarterun quarto
a quarter after/paste un quarto
half paste mezzo
a quarter to/beforemeno un quarto
sharpin punto
Store hours, TV timetables, performance listings, and other time references are written differently in Italy. When telling time, commas replace colons. For example, 2:00 becomes 2,00; 2:30 becomes 2,30; 2:50 becomes 2,50.
The following table shows how you would tell the time from 5:00 to 6:00.

TELLING TIME 5:00-6:00
5,00Sono le cinque.
5,10Sono le cinque e dieci.
5,15Sono le cinque e un quarto.
5,20Sono le cinque e venti.
5,30Sono le cinque e mezzo.
5,40Sono le sei meno venti.
5,45Sono le sei meno un quarto.
5,50Sono le sei meno dieci.
6,00Sono le sei.
As in most of Europe, Italy uses the so-called "official time" (equivalent to "military time" in the United States) in train schedules, performances, movie timetables, radio, TV, and office hours. Between friends and in other informal situations, Italians may use the numbers from 1 to 12 to indicate time, and the context of the conversation will usually be sufficient. After all, La Scala doesn't have performances at eight in the morning!

del mattino = in the morning
del pomeriggio = in the afternoon
di sera = in the evening
di notte- at night

If you want some more practice, here's a video that explains it in detail!
Time Video

Your homework: Write 10 time sentences in Italian.  A classmate will take your quiz, trying to guess what times your wrote!

To prove that you visited the blog,  leave a comment and give me the current time in Italian!

Video of Italian National Anthem

Italian lyrics
Fratelli d'Italia,
l'Italia s'è desta,
dell'elmo di Scipio
s'è cinta la testa.
Dov'è la Vittoria?
Le porga la chioma,
ché schiava di Roma
Iddio la creò. (repeat all)

CORO:
Stringiamci a coorte,
siam pronti alla morte.
Siam pronti alla morte,
l'Italia chiamò.
Stringiamci a coorte,
siam pronti alla morte.
Siam pronti alla morte,
l'Italia chiamò! (Sì!)

English translation
Brothers of Italy,
Italy has woken,
Bound Scipio's helmet
Upon her head.
Where is Victory?
Let her bow down,[3]
For God created her
Slave of Rome. (repeat all)

CHORUS:
Let us join in a cohort,

Ciao, ragazzi!  Oggi abbiamo imparato dei mesi dell'anno.  (Today we learned about the months of the year.)

You matched up flashcards with holidays to their correct date, and you noticed that by using cognates (words that are similar in Italian and English or Spanish), by using clues like pictures and numbers, and common sense strategies like process of elimination.

We practiced a song to help us with the pronunciation.  The words are below and Giovanni made a video to help you remember the tune.  He did it during 5th period and they were a little rowdy, so he apologizes for the background noise!
